Thank you to the 35 terrific volunteers who helped clean up Plumb Beach this past Saturday afternoon! We removed 1000 lbs of trash from the shore, including a boat engine, a street sign post, many large chunks of styrofoam, and three tires, which helped create a safer and more beautiful environment for nesting horseshoe crabs, shorebirds and beach-goers.
We’re grateful for Council Member Mercedes Narcisse’s and her team’s support of our stewardship and educational programs as well as for coming out to help to clean twice in one day! We’d also like to thank our program partners National Park Service and Partnership for Parks. Very special appreciation goes out to the mighty crew from FDNY Ladder 11 & Brooklyn Iron Workers for helping organize, provide equipment, and remove all large items at an unprecedented speed and proportion!
