Saturday’s cleanup was a success! 80 volunteers turned out and removed over 300lbs of trash and cut invasive vines. Some highlights from our finds were a frayed 6-foot oil boom, a truck tire, a large rusty pole, and a plastic doll arm.
Despite the chilly temps, dozens of students participated from the following schools; IS 7, PS 3, PS 23, PS 34, PS 53, PS 75, St Clare’s, Monsignor Farrell High School, Wagner High School, Curtis High School, Tottenville High, New Dorp High School, and Staten Island Tech. The Fiesty Foxes Stroll Team also completed a special landscaping task by removing invasive wisteria from the woodlands.
Our event partners were the Natural Resources Protection Association, United Activities Unlimited, and NY Cares.
Thank you to CM Joe Borelli and his team for sponsoring this stewardship event. And special thanks to Andy Levison from Staten Island Community TV for documenting the cleanup!
