Lemon Creek and Prince’s Bay Walk with Staten Island Museum

Nathan Kensinger led an enthusiastic group of 7 people (from 19 RSVPs) with perfect Fall weather for a walk exploring Lemon Creek and Prince’s Bay. Most of the attendees were from Staten Island, including one who grew up in the neighborhood of Prince’s Bay and whose family had been there for 3 generations. He had great stories of running around barefoot on old cobblestone roads, swimming and fishing in the creek and bay, and he knew the families who used to live in all the old houses.  Everyone was fascinated to hear the oyster history of the neighborhood, and no one had ever been in the State woodlands there, or knew about the author Joseph Mitchell, who I do a reading from on the walk.
