Join NYC H2O, the National Parks Service and the NYC Parks Department for a volunteer beach cleanup to help get Plumb Beach ready for spring. A clean beach benefits local residents and marine life, and offers opportunities for water ecology education. Schoolchildren get to see Plumb Beach’s wetlands and on NYC H2O’s free field trips.
Registration required: please sign up here. The cleanup will run from 10am to 1pm. Optional bus transportation to Plumb Beach will be provided from Union Square in Manhattan (space is limited) – the bus will depart at 9am and will return to Union Square after the cleanup.
We have a very special treat for volunteers at noon. Naturalist Mickey Cohen will lead a hands-on seining net adventure to finish up the clean-up. We’ll see close-up some of the creatures that live in Prince’s Bay whom we helped protect from beach garbage.
NYC H2O’s Plumb Beach program is generously supported by JP Morgan and BNY Mellon. This program is being offered in conjunction with NY State “I Love my Park Day” and Riverkeeper’s River Sweep. H2O thanks program participants NY Cares and The Stuyvesant High School chapter of the Red Cross.
