Thank you to the 200+ volunteers who cleaned up the beach at Dorothy Fitzpatrick Fishing Pier at Lemon Creek Park on Saturday. We removed 3000lbs of marine debris including such interesting finds as a huge styrofoam block lost from a passing barge, a yoshi plushie, a couple of car tires and some rusted bike frames. We were also able to find bunker, flounder and sharks during NRPAs and NYCH2O’s two seining sessions!
Ever thankful to our program partner NRPA and for DSNY’s help. We’re especially grateful for the student volunteers who helped this weekend; special shoutout to the groups from IS 7, Monsignor Farrell HS and St. Joseph’s by the Sea. And as always, much thanks goes out to CM Joe Borelli for sponsoring this stewardship event.
