Job Description
NYC H2O is seeking full-time and part-time Environmental Educators to lead in-person field trips and virtual lessons for school groups. The in-person field sites include historic reservoirs, wetlands, and beaches in NYC parks. The 11 locations are:
●Manhattan – Central Park Reservoir
● Brooklyn – Ridgewood Reservoir, Plumb Beach, Canarsie Park & Manhattan Beach
● Bronx – The High Bridge, Jerome Park Reservoir, & Orchard Beach
● Queens – Baisley Pond
● Staten Island – Silver Lake Reservoir & Lemon Creek
Field guides receive a $1,200 stipend for completing the following:
●Attending 6 training sessions-on-site +virtual training
●Apprenticing on 4 tours with a senior guide
● Leading 6 field trips
Continued part-time and full-time employment will be considered based on successful completion of the paid training program outlined above.
Full-time salary is $50K- $60K depending on experience, plus health insurance.
Field trips last approximately 2 hours and take place from 10:30am–12:30pm Monday thru Friday.Fall session runs from September through early December. Spring session March through June. Virtual lessons are 60 minutes during school hours 9:00am – 2:30pm between mid-December and March.
Applicants should be comfortable leading classes of grades 2–12; have a strong interest in NYC history,geography, and ecology; and like to teach outdoors. Experience with Zoom and ArcGIS is a plus.
