Thank you to the 12 dedicated volunteers who helped clean up Canarsie Beach this past Saturday! We removed 2 bags of recycling and 16 bags of trash including such finds as a part of a deconstructed portable grill, a rusty traffic sign post and an assortment of artificial flowers.
This cleanup removed a particularly large amount of plastic bottles and food packaging which helps prevent microplastics from entering our ocean and local ecosystem’s food chain. Beautifying Canarsie Beach and Pier also creates a safer and more enjoyable environment for marine wildlife and beach-goers alike.
Extremely grateful for Council Member Mercedes Narcisse’s and her team’s support of our stewardship and educational programs as well as for coming out to help to clean!
And thanks to our program partners Jamaica Bay- Rockaway Parks Conservancy, The Gateway National Recreation Area, and Rockaway Parkway Merchants Corridor Association Inc. for their support. Much appreciation also goes out to Khalsa Aid USA and Friends of Canarsie Park for coming to clean as well.
